The Renaissance and Rembrandt:5th Grade Study Drawing Project

Here are a few samples of 5th grade's finished study drawing project. Our 5th grade students learned how Renaissance artists practice different parts of their art works over and over again to increase their skill and solve difficult visual problems such as light logic and complex shapes. To practice making a study drawing of their own, they made a reproduction of Rembrandt's Elephant Study. They used the element of line to describe the shape of the elephant and used the cross-hatching method, which uses layers of intersecting lines, to create different values.
